IESE Business School
Introduction
At IESE, we seek to impact the management profession by offering high-quality learning to students and senior executives from around the world. Our programs are designed and delivered by faculty who are recognized for their dedication to teaching and research, with close ties to the international business community.
A hallmark of the IESE experience is the school's dedication to the individual development of each and every student and participant in our programs. We do this by fostering a culture of learning, and by placing the professional and personal development of all students and program participants at the center of our concerns. This people-centered approach reflects our belief that the aim of managers mu0333 Municst be to serve people and society.
The proof of our success is the 32,000 alumni of IESE programs working in more than 100 countries around the world. They are known for their professional excellence, integrity and broad vision of life. Moreover, IESE is normally ranked among the leading business schools of the world.
Mission
IESE Business School is committed to the development of leaders who aspire to have a positive, deep and lasting impact on people, firms and society through their professionalism, integrity and spirit of service.
IESE aspires to be a world-class and truly global business school, seeking teaching excellence and research impact. IESE has two campuses in Barcelona and Madrid and facilities in Munich, New York and Sao Paulo, offering executive programs in key countries around the world.
Core Values
The school’s core values are articulated in its programs and materials. They are based on the belief that firms are, above all, communities of people who work better in an atmosphere of trust. Those values highlight the aspiration to excellence that any professional in the business world should aim at. They include:
• Respect for others
• Professionalism
• Spirit of service
• Integrity
• Commitment to the common good of companies and society
• Humility
• Learning and listening
• Teamwork
In its programs, IESE also takes a view of leadership development that is based on the following pillars:
• General management perspective
• Human and ethical values
• International character
• Transformational impact
• Knowledge development
These key values are shared among IESE faculty and staff and are instilled in IESE students through the curricula. IESE faculty members believe in the value of leading by example.
IESE is Focus on People
IESE Business School believes that the development and well-being of people should be the cornerstone of all management practices. In today’s globally-linked business world, we believe this fundamental principle is becoming increasingly evident. Only by placing priority on the people who work for and are affected by company activities, can organizations prosper and benefit society in the long-term.
An emphasis on people extends to the way the school carries out all its activities. Programs are highly personalized, and IESE faculty are frequently available for consultation outside of class. The school’s size lends itself to frequent interaction among students and staff. Consequently, alumni often note that IESE’s personal and friendly atmosphere was one of their primary reasons for choosing the school.
The Case Method
The highly dynamic and practical case study method, which was first developed at Harvard Business School, is the main methodological tool used in IESE programs. While other complementary teaching methods such as lectures and simulations in the classroom are often employed, the case study method is the central approach used by IESE faculty.
Through the use of research-based business cases, students and faculty engage in a process of analysis and in-depth discussion of the real-life challenges faced by companies worldwide. Moreover, IESE faculty are prolific producers of cases and technical notes, in both English and Spanish.
Programs
International Relations
In 1993, in response to a rapidly globalizing environment, IESE began forging joint-programs with a number of top U.S. business schools to offer open-enrollment and customized programs. The world was growing too complex, interconnected, and global for any single business school to claim to have all the answers. Partner schools have included Harvard Business School, Stanford, MIT Sloan School of Management and the University of Michigan Business School. The tradition of collaborating with leading schools to offer high-caliber programs with a trans-Atlantic perspective continues today.
Following the expansion of the Madrid campus in 2004, IESE inaugurated in 2007 new buildings at its Barcelona campus and established offices in New York. The school also has facilities in Munich and Sao Paulo. The new facilities will help IESE to provide the best possible services to companies and executives as well as create an important legacy for future generations.
