People Development: The Key to Business Performance Some say leaders are born. We believe leadership can be acquired, nurtured and stimulated at all levels. How? By raising inquisitiveness in a setting where people make meaningful connections between themselves, their team, their goals and their importance to their organisation. This is when an organisation breaks moulds and excels. A Focus on Action Learning We believe that learning is something you do, rather than something that is done to you. A Needs-driven Approach We believe that each programme should contribute to individual development and have an organisational impact. Innovative Learning Methodologies Integral to the design of a custom-made programme are decisions about the learning methodologies involved in delivery phase of the program. Diverse Learning Environments With our company specific custom-made programs we understand that, just as one program does not fit all, the same is true of the location of the program. Achieving Business Impact To execute strategic change successfully, executives not only require the necessary skills, but also the personal motivation to drive that change.
The close relations that Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, maintains with the business world can partly be attributed to ten our centres of expertise. Inspired by concrete business problems and working directly wtih organisations to advance in-company innovation, the centres bring together faculty members from multiple disciplines to conduct applied, focused research in a specialised area. Researchers at RSM collaborate with colleagues at the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) within the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM). Researchers contribute to the creation of new knowledge in five core streams: Finance & Accounting, Logistics and Information Systems, Marketing, Organisation and Strategy. Our custom programmes are tailor-made for a particular client’s need; theory is taught with practical application in mind. Learning specialists and expert faculty work in partnership with clients to fully understand the business drivers behind the programme in order to design a unique learning experience that delivers at both the individual and organizational level. Testament to our success in this area are the clients who have worked with us for close to 25 years, co-developing generations of employees through successive programmes. RSM has a long, proven track record of working with clients to build managerial capability and improve business performance. Our teaching is interactive and varied, to appeal to individual learning styles. Allowing participants to practice new behaviours in the classroom also makes implementation in the workplace smoother. We believe that it's easier to 'act into a new way of thinking' than the other way around.
We believe that a thorough Needs Analysis is critical to providing a truly customised programme. This means uncovering and identifying what a client wishes to achieve, by talking to various stakeholders, designing a suitable programme, and executing it with the most appropriate faculty in terms of both their expert knoweledge and their 'fit' with the client. Please refer to the diagram for an overview of our process. In the classroom we use a range of teaching methods to cater for different learning styles. Individual participants are interviewed prior to a programme to ensure they get the most out of the learning experience and customised so that what they learn can be applied in the context of their workplace and contribute to the performance and growth of the organisation.
We have experience across many industry sectors and at different levels in leadership development, talent development, management development, general management, leadership transitions, development of high potentials, talent development, and developing leadership pipeline and talent pipeline. Drawing on a wider faculty network gives us particular expertise in finance, human resource mangement, marketing, strategy, global account management, corporate governance, ethics, leadership, innovation, diversity and female leadership, developing women.
Better decision making, better prepared managers, managers who can make a faster transition to new leadership positions, more engaged employees, increased capability and competence at individual and group level, lower attrition rates, improved customer satisfaction, successful implementation of change initiatives, building the next generation of senior managers are just examples of some of the benefits which can arise from an RSM learning intervention. Our interactive teaching style allows participants to connect the classroom learning with the practical implementation and we can provide the expert knowledge and insights which can only be found at a research-led university business school. A customised programme can contribute to the strategic goals of the business.
We believe that evaluation of a programme begins at the very start of the process of working with a client. Conducting a thorough analysis of a client's needs and agreeing on objectives makes it easier at all stages of a programme - before, during and after - to test if the required goals are being achieved. Each session, day, and module is evaluated and feedback discussed with the client organisation to enable changes to the programme along the way. Formal, documented feedback is carried out at agreed points in the programme and at the end of the programme.
Each programme is managed by an RSM Learning Consultant, a learning specialist who leads the consultation and design phase, manages faculty, and is responsible for evaluation and feedback. Among our faculty are:
